A CSU team has been awarded the inaugural grant from a program created by the Salazar Center for North American Conservation in partnership with Denver Parks and Recreation. The Urban Climate Resilience initiative was launched earlier this year.

CSU’s Salazar Center’s Virtual International Symposium hosted U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on Wednesday, Sept. 29. During the symposium, Vilsack unveiled a comprehensive set of investments to address challenges facing the country’s agriculture producers, including market disruptions, climate change and animal disease prevention.
The lineup includes Former Vice President Al Gore, Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland and White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Brenda Mallory.
The scholarship will support student participation in Elevating Voices, a program providing mentorship and learning opportunities around conservation, storytelling and film production.
The symposium will convene leaders from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Indigenous territories to explore the state of progress toward national and international large landscape conservation goals.
The Center envisions a future where healthy, connected landscapes in North America support community wellness and equity.
Even before construction on its CSU Spur campus is completed in 2022, the CSU System has been following an anchor institution model of engaging and working with the communities surrounding the future site.
