On July 14, Lindsey Shirley joins the Office of Engagement and Extension in the role of assistant vice president for engagement and extension and deputy director of CSU Extension.
Shirley has had a long commitment to expanding access to the land-grant university system’s learning, discovery, engagement and extension. Her recent focus was on the intersection of the needs of Oregonians and the programs convened by the Oregon State University Extension Service and Division of Extension and Engagement at Oregon State University. She played a key role in the vision for what is now Oregon State’s Center for the Outdoor Recreation Economy and in establishing the partnership in the Data Science for the Public Good program.
Her work as associate provost for extension and engagement led to positive solutions with communities that serve as a framework to explore and uncover new possibilities and include innovations in teaching and learning implemented into secondary, post-secondary, and extension learning environments across the United States and international locations.
“My work is centered on community and connections,” said Shirley. “That’s what excites me about joining CSU and the Office of Engagement and Extension. Working with communities and building partnerships that make programs and education even more accessible for learners of all ages. I look forward to working together in ways where we all flourish and thrive.”
In her role at CSU, Shirley will provide day-to-day leadership in delivering on the extension mission of the university with a focus on program quality including content, work with faculty and overall impact. She will lead engagement, extension and continuing educations programs and services that serve all of Colorado’s 64 counties.

Shirley holds degrees from Iowa State University (PhD, BS) and the University of Minnesota (MEd). She will hold an appointment as professor with tenure in the Department of Design and Merchandising in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
