Eric McPhail steps into role of CSU Extension Field Director

Eric McPhail

Building on his deep experience as a county director and agriculture, livestock and youth Extension specialist and most recently, his regional director position, Eric McPhail has stepped into the role of CSU Extension Field Director. He brings strong connections across Colorado and an approach to partnering that will continue to elevate CSU Extension’s field staff and its role as a trusted partner in connecting learners and communities across the state.

McPhail reports to Kathay Rennels, interim VP for Engagement and Extension.

Shared Rennels, “Our Extension field staff are the direct connection in our Colorado communities to the resources and programs of CSU. Colorado State University Extension is poised to have a significant increase in impact across the state and having a position focused on the opportunities and relationships is critical to that growth. Eric’s relationships across the state, on campus and with CSU System partners will continue to deepen our land-grant mission of access for all Coloradans. I am also grateful for CJ Mucklow’s interim service in this role over the last year and his support during this transition, building on his long career in Extension at CSU. CJ’s role and impact has identified the need and helped shape this unique position.”

“I am excited to step into the role to serve the state broadly, continuing to strengthen relationships and bridges between our counties, staff and engaged departments across CSU,” McPhail said.

“As regional director, I’ve sought out opportunities to highlight the impact of our Extension faculty and staff and introduce communities to all that we offer. This is the commitment I bring, and I look forward to learning and connecting in each of our counties. If we can continue to strengthen and build connections across the state, whether that’s between ag experiment stations, forestry collaboratives, our experts across CSU and so many others, the sky is the limit,” he said.

Prior to joining CSU in 2006, Eric managed his family farm and ranch operation in Texas, and served as a graduate research and teaching assistant in Animal Science at Texas A&M. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University.
