CSU welcomes 4-H youth from across Colorado for state conference

Last week, 275 4-H youth, accompanied by 40 4-H leaders, volunteers and proud parents, discovered new possibilities on Colorado State University’s campus during the 4-H state conference.

4-H youth participated in workshops, learning about topics ranging from robotics to sustainability. They competed in contests, including livestock judging and public speaking, and were rewarded for their efforts. They toured CSU’s facilities and heard from CSU President Amy Parsons, who welcomed 4-H members from across the state and shared her experience in 4-H.

“4-H played a major part in my life growing up,” Parsons said during a banquet honoring 4-H leaders, volunteers and competitors. “And I attribute my experiences in 4-H to a lot of the success and personal growth that I’ve had over time.”

Parsons spoke about CSU’s land-grant mission and presence in every county in Colorado, offering as examples CSU Extension and Agricultural Experiment Stations

Our access mission extends to all of you having access to study at CSU — which I hope you do,” she said. “It also extends to CSU taking our academics, research and expertise out across Colorado to people where they need it in every corner of the state.”

Parsons praised the 4-H pledge and conference theme, “Opening Doors to New Possibilities.”

“You are opening doors of possibilities for yourselves by being in 4-H, by being leaders, by honing your skills in all the activities you’re doing,” she said. “You’re also leaders who are going to hold the doors open for those who come behind you as well.”

The Colorado 4-H Youth Development Program is one of many lifelong learning opportunities offered through CSU’s Office of Engagement and Extension.
